Real Madrid target David De Gea only in Spanish capital 'to rest'

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has cooled talk of an imminent move to Real Madrid despite being pictured in the Spanish capital.

De Gea, 24, said he was back in his home city simply "to rest" after he was seen in Madrid on Thursday afternoon after spending a break in Bali with his girlfriend, Spanish singer Edurne Garcia.

"I'm here to rest," the Spain international told AS. "I'm on holiday. Everything is going well."

De Gea has only one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford but United are widely reported to be holding out for a substantial fee.

Reports in Spain have claimed Real had an €18 million (£12.8m) offer for De Gea rejected, with the Daily Mirror reporting that they want £35m, and Marca has said United are insisting that any sale involves Sergio Ramos moving in the opposite direction.

Spain centre-back Ramos, 29, is under contract with Real for another two seasons but is widely reported to be demanding a move to United.

De Gea, who joined United in 2011 for a reported £17.8m from Atletico Madrid, is expected at United's Carrington training ground on Monday to begin preseason training.
